In short

  • A Halloween photo booth needs three things: a backdrop, a basket of props and a phone on a steady stand.

  • The props come in four groups (signs, headwear, face props and hand props), each with a transparent background.

  • Print props on white cardstock at 100% (Actual Size) so pieces from one set stay in proportion.

  • Each backdrop prints as a poster or shows full screen on a TV behind the guests.

  • Share this style gives every guest's photo strip the same frame, color and stickers.

Turn your booth photos into a Halloween photo strip

Four-photo Halloween photo strip with witch hat and BOO sign props added to each photo

A booth isn't finished until the photos come out. Open the Halloween photo frame maker, choose the photo strip and add up to four photos: they stack in a 2 × 6 inch strip with space for the party name and date. Add stickers such as bats, pumpkins or witch hats, then download it, or save a printable PDF on Letter or A4 paper.

Halloween photo strip in a photo editor

The maker has five frame styles: Polaroid, photo strip, spooky, haunted vintage and cute. It saves a square post, a 9:16 story, a 4 × 6, 5 × 7 or 8 × 10 print, or the 2 × 6 strip. Your photos stay on your device, because the maker works in your browser.

To make every guest's photos match, set up one frame and choose Share this style. The link keeps the frame, color and stickers. It never carries anyone's photos or text, so each guest adds their own pictures and the party name once.

How to print Halloween photo booth props and big frames

Printed Halloween props, scissors and wooden handles on a table

Print the props on white cardstock, on Letter or A4 paper, and set the printer to 100% (Actual Size) so pieces from the same set stay in proportion. Thin printer paper flops on a stick and lets light through in photos.

  1. Cut close to the outline. The transparent background means you can follow the edge of each prop; leave a thin white border if your scissors struggle with small corners.
  2. Add a handle. Tape or hot-glue a wooden skewer, a dowel, a paper straw or a paint stirrer to the back. If you use skewers, wrap the pointed tip in tape or snip it off, especially for children.
  3. Flatten curled props. Cardstock can bend after printing. Lay the cut props under a pile of heavy books overnight before the party.
  4. Make big frames sturdy. A big frame needs to be printed larger than one sheet. Take the file to a print shop and ask for a poster or a foam board print, or print it in sections with your printer's poster or tiling setting and glue the sheets onto a flattened cardboard box. Cut out the center once it is mounted.

Keep the props in a basket or a bucket next to the booth with the Grab a prop sign, so guests help themselves.

DIY Halloween photo booth setup: phone, light and backdrop

Phone on a tripod beside a light and Halloween backdrop

You don't need a camera or a rented booth. A phone and a few household things make it work.

  • Pick the spot. A plain wall near where people gather, away from a bright window behind the guests. Clear anything that would show up in the background.
  • Hang the backdrop. Print one of the backdrops as a poster, or show it full screen on a TV behind the guests; a wide design from the Halloween wallpapers works on a screen too. Make it wide enough for your biggest group, and tape it flat so it doesn't wrinkle.
  • Leave a gap. Stand guests a step or two in front of the backdrop. Their shadows fall behind them and the backdrop stays sharp and even.
  • Light from the front. Put a lamp or a ring light beside the phone, a little above eye level. Overhead lights alone leave dark eyes.
  • Steady the phone. Use a tripod or a stack of books at chest height, and set the camera timer so the group can pose. Mark the floor with tape where people should stand.
  • Test first. Take a few shots before guests arrive and check the whole group fits and the backdrop fills the frame.

Halloween photo booth backdrop ideas

Halloween photo corner with a backdrop and pumpkins

The six printable backdrops cover the classic looks: bats over bare branches, a moonlit graveyard, a haunted portrait wall, a pumpkin patch, cobwebs on a dark wall and vintage paper chains. You can also build one from party supplies:

Man in a black cloak holding a lantern, framed by bare branches and an orange moon
  • Stretchy cobwebs pulled across a dark sheet or tablecloth; a dark wall makes the white webs stand out.
  • Paper bats taped in a swarm across a wall, flying toward one corner; print and cut them from the Halloween clipart.
  • Hay bales and real pumpkins in front of the pumpkin patch backdrop, as seats for kids.
  • Orange and black streamers hung in strips from the ceiling.
  • A wall of googly eyes or paper eyes for an "I'm watching you" look.

Halloween photo booth ideas for every party

Halloween photo booths at a family party, classroom and office

For families and kids

Use the friendly props: the friendly ghost, the pumpkin hat, the bat ears and the candy bucket. Pick the pumpkin patch backdrop and set the phone low enough for small children. Frame the photos in the cute style with each child's name, and you have a keepsake for every year.

Halloween photo booth printables at a party

For an office party

Keep it quick: one backdrop, the signs and the two mustaches, and a printed Share this style link on the table so colleagues can frame their own photos and post them. The haunted portrait frame is easy for one or two people to hold at once.

For school and classrooms

Signs and headwear work best for a whole class, because they are big and easy to hold. Cut the props out ahead of time and use straws or dowels instead of skewers.

For a wedding-style or grown-up party

Go darker and more elegant: the haunted portrait wall backdrop, the haunted portrait frame, candles off to the side and the haunted vintage style in the maker. Fewer props, bigger poses.

FAQ

Shelfcanvas, an online image and print-design site, has 24 original printable Halloween photo booth props in four groups, plus 3 big frames and 6 backdrops. Every file downloads directly from this page, with no email, no sign-up and no watermark.

Use white cardstock on Letter or A4 paper and print at 100% (Actual Size). Cardstock holds its shape on a stick and doesn't let light through; if props curl, lay them flat under heavy books overnight and glue the stick along most of the prop's length.

Have a print shop print one of the big frames as a poster or on foam board, or print it in sections at home and glue the sheets onto cardboard. Cut out the center after mounting it.

Hang a backdrop that is plain behind the guests' heads and wide enough for your biggest group, stand guests a step or two in front of it, light them from the front with a lamp, and put the phone on a tripod or a stack of books with the timer on.

Yes. Open the Halloween photo frame maker, choose the photo strip and add up to four photos. It lays them out in a 2 × 6 inch strip with the party name and date, free and without uploading your photos.

No. You can print them for any party or event you host and share the photos, but selling the files or putting them in another image library is not allowed.
