In short

  • Show your real product in a seasonal scene, with one clear offer or reason to buy.

  • Each ad placement has its own shape: a square post, a tall Story, a wide feed image and a long Pinterest pin.

  • A Pinterest standard image ad is recommended at 1000 × 1500 px, a 2:3 shape.

  • NRF's 2026 survey found 49% of consumers plan to begin Halloween shopping in September or earlier. This measures purchase intentions, not completed purchases. Last checked October 19, 2026.

  • Pinterest does not allow excessively violent or gory ads, so spooky works better than gruesome.

Six real Halloween campaigns to learn from

These public brand campaigns include film, social posts, packaging and promotions. They illustrate creative approaches rather than proving that a particular image or placement drove sales. Source pages opened October 19, 2026; the breakdowns and small-shop suggestions are our own.

Heinz — Tomato Blood / vegetarian vampire (2022). Original brand release and creative. Heinz made its familiar ketchup part of a vampire story, with Toby promoting tomato ketchup as his alternative to blood. Breakdown: the product's existing red color supplies the Halloween connection, while the character gives the campaign a story beyond a bottle shot. For a small shop: build an original character around something your item already does or looks like. A dark candle could become a librarian's evening companion; keep the candle recognizable and let a prop or caption establish the story.

Burger King — Trick or Heat (2023). Original brand announcement. The Ghost Pepper Whopper paired an orange bun and black sesame seeds with a name that connected a spicy ingredient to the season. Breakdown: color and product naming carry the Halloween idea without hiding the food under decoration. For a small shop: show an actual seasonal colorway or ingredient prominently. A jeweler can photograph the orange-and-black pieces already in a collection, then write an offer about those pieces rather than adding unrelated pumpkins everywhere.

Fanta — Beetlejuice Beetlejuice / Summon What You Wanta (2024). Original Coca-Cola campaign announcement. The partnership combined a limited-edition apple flavor, character packaging and black-and-white stripes, with on-pack QR codes leading to activities. Breakdown: the package, visual world and next action reinforce the same theme. For a small shop: create your own seasonal palette and repeat it across the product photo, packaging and landing page. If you add a QR code, give it one clear destination, such as a collection or care guide. Use your own artwork rather than copying the film's characters or branding.

Chipotle — Boorito and Spirit Halloween costumes (2024). Original Boorito announcement. Chipotle connected its costume-based Halloween promotion with costumes modeled on its napkin, fork, cup, burrito and bag. Breakdown: recognizable everyday brand objects become the joke, while the promotion gives people an action to take. For a small shop: turn an original shop motif into a costume, illustration or playful product arrangement. Give the post a concrete next step, such as choosing a seasonal bundle, and state any offer conditions alongside it.

McDonald's Australia — Boo Buckets (2024). Original Australian brand announcement. The Halloween promotion featured monster-themed buckets with a sticker activity and different color options. Breakdown: the packaging is both the visual attraction and part of the Halloween activity, so the campaign has something tangible to show. For a small shop: demonstrate how a real box, pouch or basket can join the celebration after unpacking. Photograph it in use and make any color choices clear; only promise packaging customers will actually receive.

Dunkin' — Spidey D social takeover (2024). Original brand account of the campaign. Dunkin' describes its Spider Donut becoming a mischievous character in its social feed, with jokes, merchandise and a final video containing the character in a Halloween bucket. Breakdown: the product becomes a recurring personality, letting successive posts develop one recognizable idea. For a small shop: give one seasonal item an original voice and plan a short sequence of connected pictures: introduction, a playful mishap and the finished gift. Keep the same visual cues so each post is recognizable without inventing engagement or sales claims.

Review Pinterest's advertising guidelines as well as the size specifications for your placement.

  • Keep it spooky, not gory. Pinterest does not allow excessively violent or gory advertising. Ghosts, pumpkins, potions and black cats carry Halloween without blood.
  • Show the product you actually sell. Pinterest does not allow ads that show a different product from the one offered in an intentionally deceptive way. Use your own product in the scene, and keep the color and finish true.
  • Spell out the offer. Pinterest asks that conditions and restrictions of a promotion are clearly stated and visible, and limits advertised discounts to no more than 90% off. Put the code, the end date and any minimum spend where people can see them.
  • Keep claims realistic. Pinterest excludes unrealistic or exaggerated claims. Describe what the product is and does.

When to run Halloween ads

Choose timing for your shop. NRF's 2026 Halloween survey, published September 22, reports that 49% of consumers plan to begin shopping in September or earlier. This is stated intent, not a sales record or a universal date to start advertising. Set your schedule around stock, processing time, delivery options and your campaign results. Last checked October 19, 2026.

Build through October. Use your main offer and bestsellers, and update the message as your own order cutoff approaches.

Plan the final weekend. Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31. Plan your final-weekend ads around the dates relevant to your shop. For physical products, stop advertising delivery-before-Halloween offers once your own shipping cutoff passes, and switch to local pickup, ready-to-ship stock or digital products.

From November 1, change the angle. Ads that promised Halloween arrival stop making sense the next day. Pause them and move remaining stock into clearance ads, or roll the same product photos into autumn and Black Friday campaigns.

What small sellers and buyers are saying

One buyer post asked for Halloween shirts with designs that were not AI-generated. This is an individual request, not evidence of a market-wide preference.

For your own ad, make the product's design and materials clear, and explain who made it if that matters to your customer. A seasonal background can frame a product photo; it should not conceal or replace the item the buyer will receive.

Shelfcanvas, an AI product-photo tool for online sellers, places your product photo in a seasonal scene from the AI card on this page, and Add headline sets the ad's words on the finished picture. The page also lists 15 Halloween ad ideas and the Pinterest standard image ad size, 1000 × 1500 px.

No. Check the crop and readable text area for each placement in its ad preview before publishing; a single export does not guarantee every placement will fit.

There is no single start date. NRF's 2026 survey says 49% plan to begin shopping in September or earlier; choose campaign dates using your stock and delivery cutoff, rather than treating the intention survey as an advertising schedule.

Carry the ad's offer and product through to the landing page. Use Halloween banners for your shop for the storefront version, and Halloween product photo ideas for seasonal scene directions.

Halloween banners for your shop

Make the product's design and materials clear and keep the actual item visible. A seasonal background frames the item the buyer will receive; it should not replace it or blur into the styling props.

Once your shipping cutoff passes, stop advertising delivery-before-Halloween offers and switch to local pickup, ready-to-ship stock or digital products. From November 1, pause ads promising Halloween arrival and move suitable remaining stock into clearance, autumn or Black Friday campaigns.
