Product photo prompts

These black friday product photo prompts give you 12 scene ideas for sale-week images, with each card showing its scene, light and any details that change.

Shelfcanvas AI Photoshoot locks the product from your photo; in ChatGPT, Gemini and similar tools, start with “Use my uploaded photo of the [product] and keep it exactly as it is.”

The first eight cards share the same PRODUCT, COPY SPACE and FRAME lines, and each complete copy prompt includes them.

  • Black dotted mug on a glossy black riser under one spotlight with a red rim light
    Mugs

    Dark products: one spotlight

A late-night reveal for a dark product: one hard spotlight from above and a red rim light that traces its edges.

    Full prompt

PRODUCT: Keep the product's shape, color, label and details as shown in the reference photo. SCENE: A dramatic late-night product reveal: deep black set, one hard spotlight and a single signal-red glow. A low glossy black cylinder riser sits under the reserved product area in front of a deep black seamless backdrop. Glossy black acrylic riser and floor with a soft mirror reflection; the backdrop is matte black and falls off into darkness. Two small mirror-chrome spheres rest at the far left floor edge, reflecting the red light; nothing else is on set. LIGHT: Contact shadow first under the product area. One hard spotlight from straight above makes a crisp pool on the riser; a red rim light from behind traces edges. High-contrast commercial still life, crisp and photographic; every surface is plain and unmarked. Black with signal red as the only color in the frame; chrome highlights. COPY SPACE: The top fifth and the bottom fifth are a smooth unbroken black field; light stays in the middle around the product area. FRAME: 70 mm perspective, low distortion, product sharp, backdrop softly out of focus.

Make it yours: Swap "signal red" for "electric cyan" for a Cyber Monday version of the same set.

Where it came from a Shelfcanvas test run on October 25, 2026, on a black dotted mug. This prompt has no PRODUCT part because the tool keeps the product from the photo. In a chat tool, start with "Use my uploaded photo of the [product] and keep it exactly as it is."

  • Dark grey T-shirt laid flat on red paper beside an open kraft box with black tissue, seen from above
    Clothing

    T-shirts: red unboxing flat-lay

A top-down unboxing for a garment shot flat: red paper, an open kraft box and black tissue.

    Full prompt

PRODUCT: Keep the product's shape, color, label and details as shown in the reference photo. SCENE: A bold unboxing flat-lay: signal-red paper, an open plain kraft box spilling black tissue, a few silver flecks. Signal-red seamless paper fills the frame; an open plain kraft shipping box is cropped by the upper-left corner, black tissue spilling out. Matte signal-red seamless paper, smooth and even, no folds across the product area. Open kraft box, unprinted, cropped at upper left with crumpled black tissue; five small square silver mirror confetti pieces at lower right. LIGHT: Close soft contact shadows under the box, tissue and confetti. Hard light from upper left for crisp short shadows; confetti catch sparkles. Top-down e-commerce flat-lay photograph; box, tissue and paper are plain and unmarked. Signal red and black, with small silver highlights only. COPY SPACE: The bottom third is smooth unbroken red paper; props stay in the upper-left and lower-right corners, away from the product area. FRAME: 55 mm perspective, deep focus, no horizon.

Make it yours: Use this only with a photo taken from directly above. For a bundle, add "and the [second item]" after the product line.

Where it came from a Shelfcanvas test run on October 25, 2026, on a dark grey T-shirt photographed flat. Like the spotlight card, it has no PRODUCT part.

Sale graphic prompts

These prompts make the background of a banner, story or offer post: a scene with a clear area where your headline, price and button go. Type the words yourself afterwards in an editor such as Add text to photo, not in the prompt; image models still misspell text.

The first three cards show finished graphics with their plain backgrounds. The text and example prices were added afterwards. The last three are text-only scene prompts, shown without example images.

  • Sale graphic: black mug on a lemon-yellow field with headline, discount and price on a black band
    Banner

Offer banner: lemon field with a black band

A loud single-colour field with a black band at the bottom for the headline and button.

    Full prompt

SCENE: A loud, bright offer moment: one saturated lemon-yellow sweep and a solid black base, nothing else. A seamless lemon-yellow paper sweep rises behind the product area; a solid matte black plinth band runs across the lower part. Matte seamless paper in saturated lemon yellow; a flat matte black plinth band with crisp edges carries the product. No props; the color field itself is the set. LIGHT: Short dark contact shadow on the black band. Even bright frontal light keeps the yellow flat; a slight hard edge light from upper right. Clean graphic studio photograph with flat color blocking; every surface is plain and unmarked. Saturated lemon yellow and pure black only. COPY SPACE: The bottom third is the flat black band, smooth and unbroken; the yellow above the product area stays an even flat field. FRAME: 85 mm perspective with nearly parallel edges and deep focus.

Make it yours: Swap "lemon-yellow" for "hot pink" or "electric lime"; keep "pure black only" for the band so white text reads on it.

Where it came from a Shelfcanvas test run on October 25, 2026, on the black mug. The mug floats a little above the band; the band itself stayed clean for text.

  • Sale graphic: grey T-shirt on black paper with a torn red strip and a code headline
    Coupon

Coupon post: torn red strip on black paper

A top-down black background with a perforated red strip, for a code or coupon post.

    Full prompt

SCENE: A night-time flat-lay on matte black paper, one torn strip of signal red, two black clips. A matte black paper surface fills the frame; one red paper strip with a perforated tear edge runs along the lower-left edge. Matte black uncoated heavy paper with fine tooth, no seams or folds across the product area. One plain signal-red paper strip with a perforated tear edge, partly cropped at lower left; two black binder clips at the top-right corner. LIGHT: Short soft contact shadow under the strip and clips. Hard overhead light from upper left gives crisp short shadows; slight falloff at the corners. Top-down graphic flat-lay photograph; the red strip and all paper are plain, unprinted and unmarked. Matte black with signal red as the only accent. COPY SPACE: The bottom third is a smooth unbroken matte black field except the red strip along its left edge. FRAME: 50 mm perspective, deep focus, no horizon.

Make it yours: Move the strip out of your text area: change "along the lower-left edge" to "along the top edge".

Where it came from a Shelfcanvas test run on October 25, 2026, on the grey T-shirt. The strip crossed the text area, so the headline needed a dark plate behind it.

  • Sale graphic: amber bottle in a black room with magenta and cyan light strips and a sale headline
    Reel cover

    Story background: neon room

A black room with magenta and cyan light strips that run toward the product, for a story or reel cover.

    Full prompt

SCENE: A black neon room at night: glossy floor, two colored light strips along the seams, strong converging perspective. A black room box with floor and two walls meeting at a corner; light strips run along both floor-wall seams toward the product area. Glossy black floor with mirror reflections of the light strips; matte black walls. No loose props; two straight light strips along the seams, one magenta and one cyan, are the only set pieces. LIGHT: Contact shadow under the product area. Magenta light from the left seam and cyan from the right seam rim the product area; dark ceiling. Cinematic neon-lit product photograph; walls and floor are plain and unmarked. Black with magenta and cyan light only. COPY SPACE: The bottom quarter is smooth unbroken glossy floor; the upper-left wall stays an even black plane. FRAME: 24 mm wide perspective, visible line convergence, deep focus.

Make it yours: For a 9:16 story, add "Tall 9:16 frame; the top quarter is an even black ceiling for the countdown."

Where it came from a Shelfcanvas test run on October 25, 2026, on the amber dropper bottle. The bottle sits small and a little above its shadow; use a photo with less empty space around the product.

  • Gift guide

Gift guide: three open black boxes

A top-down gift-guide background: three empty boxes along the top, open paper below for the product and the headline.

    Full prompt

SCENE: A late-night gift edit: near-black paper, three open empty black boxes, one curl of champagne-gold foil. Three open empty black boxes, lids off, sit along the top edge on near-black paper; the lower half stays open for the product area. Near-black matte paper with fine tooth; box interiors are matte black. Three plain open black boxes along the top edge, the outer two cropped by the frame; one curled champagne-gold foil streamer at the right edge. LIGHT: Soft contact shadow under each box and the streamer. Hard light from upper left; the foil catches one bright highlight. Top-down gift flat-lay photograph; boxes and paper are plain, unprinted and unmarked. Near-black with champagne gold as the only accent. COPY SPACE: The lower half is a smooth unbroken near-black field for the product area; boxes stay inside the top quarter. FRAME: 50 mm perspective, deep focus, no horizon.

Make it yours: Put your own small products in the three boxes later, as separate photos, so each item stays real.

  • Product grid

Product grid: four bays with green light

A black board with four equal bays, for a "four deals" post where each bay later holds one product.

    Full prompt

SCENE: A night-market display grid: a black board with four equal bays and thin volt-green light in the grooves. A matte black board has four equal recessed bays split by thin grooves; the lower-right bay is the reserved product area. Matte black board with shallow recessed bays; each groove holds a thin glowing volt-green line. No loose props; the glowing grooves are the only decoration. LIGHT: Soft contact shadow in each bay. Even overhead light keeps all four bays readable; the green groove glow adds a faint green edge. Top-down graphic product display photograph; every surface is plain and unmarked. Black with volt green as the only color. COPY SPACE: The top fifth above the grid is a smooth unbroken black band; the empty bays stay plain black for later items. FRAME: 50 mm perspective, deep focus, no horizon.

Make it yours: Change "volt-green" to "hot pink" to match a pink sale; keep "the empty bays stay plain black".

  • Early access

    Early access: half-open shutter

A steel roller shutter half raised with cold light spilling out, for a VIP or early-access announcement.

    Full prompt

SCENE: Doors opening early: a half-raised steel roller shutter in a dark night-blue space, cold white light spilling under it. Behind the product area a plain brushed-steel roller shutter is half raised; cold white light spills under it onto a dark floor. Dark night-blue concrete floor with a soft sheen; plain brushed-steel corrugated shutter, clean, no paint or marks. No loose props; the half-open shutter is the only set piece. LIGHT: Contact shadow under the product area. Cold white light streams from under the shutter toward camera, rimming the product; low ambient fill. Cinematic night retail still; the shutter and floor are plain, clean and unmarked. Night blue and black with cold white light only. COPY SPACE: The bottom third is a smooth unbroken dark floor; the shutter fills the upper half behind the product area. FRAME: 70 mm perspective, nearly parallel edges, shutter slightly soft.

Make it yours: For a wide 3:1 banner, add "Wide 3:1 frame; the left third is an even dark wall for the headline."

ChatGPT and Claude prompts for posts, emails and ads

Use these ChatGPT prompts for Black Friday posts, emails and ads as a starting point. Replace the bracketed details with your real offer, dates and product facts before you generate a draft.

These prompts write the words that go with your Black Friday images. Paste one into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and replace everything in [square brackets] with your own details. Give the real discount, dates and terms; a model will invent them if you leave them out.

Each card has a sample answer so you can see the kind of result to expect. The samples were written by an AI model for a made-up candle shop and picked by hand; they are examples, not copy to paste.

I run [shop name] and will spend [budget] on Black Friday ads on [platforms]. The sale runs [start date] to [end date]. Plan the ads by stage: warm-up, sale opens, the weekend with Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, last day. For each stage: the goal, who to show it to (new people, past visitors or past buyers), which of my images to use from this list: [images], and one line of ad text. Put it in a table. Keep the total within my budget and say how you split it.

Make it yours: List the images you already made ("spotlight mug, red flat-lay") so the plan reuses them instead of asking for new ones.

How to use these prompts

  • ChatGPT or Gemini: Copy a writing prompt and replace the bracketed details. For an image prompt, upload your product photo and begin with “Use my uploaded photo of the [product] and keep it exactly as it is.”
  • Midjourney and similar image tools: Add your photo as an image reference, paste an image prompt, then set the aspect ratio for the placement. Check the output against your original because these tools can redraw product details.
  • Shelfcanvas AI Photoshoot: Upload your product photo, choose a scene preset or describe a scene, and generate. The tool locks the product while it creates the setting around it.

One scene, every placement

A sale needs the same scene in several shapes: a wide banner, a square post, a 4:5 feed image and a 9:16 story. Cropping one picture to all four cuts off the product or the empty area for your text. Generate each shape on its own and say in the prompt where the empty area goes.

Keep the SCENE and LIGHT parts word for word, so the four images look like one set, and change only FRAME and COPY SPACE:

ShapeFRAMECOPY SPACE
Banner 3:1Wide 3:1 frame; the product sits in the right third. The left half is an even, plain area for the headline.
Post 1:1Square frame; the product is centred and fills about half the frame. The top fifth is plain for a short headline.
Feed 4:5Portrait 4:5 frame; the product sits slightly below centre. The top fifth and the bottom fifth are plain.
Story 9:16Tall 9:16 frame; the product sits in the middle third. The top quarter and the bottom quarter are plain, clear of the story buttons.

In other tools, add the shape line and run the prompt once per shape. Shelfcanvas AI Photoshoot makes the scene in the shape of the photo you upload, so crop your product photo to each shape first and run it once per shape.

Five rules for Black Friday image prompts

  • Lock the product first. Say what must not change before you describe the scene, and use a real photo of the item.
  • Write light before colour. "One hard spotlight from above" changes a picture more than "dramatic".
  • Reserve the text area. Name where the empty space goes ("the top fifth stays plain black") and keep words, prices and dates out of the prompt.
  • Name objects, not moods. "Three open black boxes" gives the model something to draw; "luxurious" does not.
  • Set the frame in words. Give the shape, the angle and how much of the frame the product fills.

Frequently asked questions

Prompts that name the scene, the light and where the empty space goes, and that tell the tool to keep the product unchanged. The 12 product-photo prompts on this page each show the image they made, so you can pick by result instead of by description.

Yes. The writing prompts work in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini after you replace the bracketed details. Image prompts can be adapted for Midjourney and similar tools that accept a reference photo; start with “Use my uploaded photo of the [product] and keep it exactly as it is.” and check the result because the tool may redraw details.

Image models may redraw the whole frame, including the product, so labels, logos and shapes can drift. Shelfcanvas AI Photoshoot locks the product from your photo and generates the scene around it; in other tools, compare the result with your photo before you post it.

No. Image models often misspell words and numbers. Ask for an empty area instead, then add the offer as a text layer in an editor, where you can check it against your real terms.

No. They were written by an AI model for a made-up candle shop to show what a prompt returns. Replace every detail with your own and check prices, dates and claims before you publish.

Etsy asks that listing images show the item accurately and that at least one photo shows the actual item without AI edits. Use generated scenes for ads and social posts, and keep a real photo in the listing.

See the Etsy guidance on AI-generated images.

No. Copying a prompt works without signing in. Making an image from your own product photo in AI Photoshoot needs a free account.
