How to print and tie Halloween gift tags
Printing Halloween gift tags at home takes five steps, and the only tools you need are scissors, a hole punch and ribbon.
- Choose a tag design. In the free printable Halloween gift tags gallery, pick Pumpkin patch gift tags, Cute pastel Halloween gift tags, Teal Pumpkin gift tags or the Boo Basket set.
- Download the PDF for your paper. Select Download Letter PDF for US Letter paper or Download A4 PDF for A4. For example, Download Letter PDF on Teal Pumpkin gift tags saves one sheet of nine tags marked Non-food treat inside.
- Print at 100% / Actual Size. Set the print scale to 100% / Actual Size so every tag stays 2.4 × 3.3 in, and use cardstock for tags that hang from a bag handle.
- Cut and punch. Cut along the dashed lines, then punch the small circle at the top of each tag with a standard hole punch.
- Write and tie. Fill in the To and From lines, thread ribbon, twine or thin elastic through the hole and tie the tag to the treat bag.
Party treat bag and classroom gift bag tags
A stack of treat bags is the moment a list of names turns into a job. Halloween gift tags with each child's name help you see which bag belongs to whom; check each name against your list as you hand out the bags.
Tags for teachers, helpers and classroom gifts
Gift bags travel in both directions in October. Children bring small treats for teachers, room parents assemble thank-you bags for classroom helpers, and teachers send a little something home with each pupil. Use To and From on the tag so the bag explains itself: "To Ms. Rivera, from Ava" reads at a glance on a full desk.
For a classroom set, keep one design across the whole class and change only the names. A cute pastel ghost or a smiling pumpkin keeps the tone friendly for younger children; the warm cream pumpkin patch tags suit a staff-room gift where a softer look feels right.
Short lines that fit a small tag
A tag has room for a few words. These short lines fit:
- "Have a spook-tacular Halloween!"
- "You're my boo."
- "Treats for a sweet pupil."
- "Thanks for helping out — have a boo-tiful night!"
- "Eat, drink and be scary."
- "No tricks, just treats."
Pick one or write your own. Keep the name the largest text on the tag and the message second, so the bag still reads correctly when it is lying in a pile.
Teal Pumpkin tags for non-food treats
Some families hand out toys or small trinkets instead of candy so children with food allergies can join in. FARE's Teal Pumpkin Project encourages offering non-food trinkets and toys in a separate bowl and shows participation with a teal pumpkin or its free printable signs. The Teal Pumpkin tags above give non-food treat bags a distinct look, with "Non-food treat inside" on every tag.
Boo Basket and "You've Been Booed" tags

A Boo Basket is a Halloween gift basket for a friend, partner, child or neighbor; it can contain snacks, small gifts or cozy seasonal items. It does not have to be anonymous or part of a game. "You've Been Booed" is a related doorstep tradition: leave treats with a note inviting the recipient to pass the surprise along to another household.
The tag-and-sign set
The Boo Basket set includes tags for the basket handle and a "You've Been Booed!" sign for the door or basket. Both share one design, so the delivery looks planned rather than pieced together. Put the recipient's name on the tag and leave the sign unsigned if you want to keep the surprise.
Bag toppers for doorstep drops
For a smaller drop, a folded bag topper does the work of a tag and a seal in one. Fold it over the open top of a cellophane or paper treat bag and staple through both layers; the front shows the design and the name, and the bag stays closed on the doorstep. A bag topper also stands up better in a basket than a loose tag, so the name faces out.
Gift tags for your shop's Halloween packaging
For an online shop, a gift tag carries your branding from the listing into the parcel. A Halloween border adds a seasonal touch to the packaging around your product.
Tags that match your product photos
Choose tags in the same colors as your product photos, so the photo, the parcel and the unboxing feel like one shop. Browse the seasonal scenes in halloween photoshoot ideas.
Pairing tags with the rest of the parcel
A tag hangs or ties on; it is not the right piece for sealing a mailer or labeling a jar. For round seals, packaging stickers and labels that peel and stick, see Halloween stickers and labels. To thank the customer inside the box, add one of our Halloween thank you cards.
A note on product hang tags

A product hang tag — the card on a sweater or a tote that shows the brand and size — is a year-round item, not a Halloween one. For October, you can swap in a seasonal hang tag on items you are featuring: same size and information, with a pumpkin-patch or vintage Halloween border, so seasonal stock stands out on a market table or in product photos. Keep the price and size where your regular tags put them so customers aren't hunting for them.
Printing and finishing your Halloween gift tags
Paper and sheet layout
Choose Letter or A4 to match the paper in your printer. Each sheet has thin dashed cut lines around every tag. Print at 100% / Actual Size.
Cardstock gives a tag that holds its shape on a bag handle; plain paper works for bag toppers that are folded and stapled. Before the full run, cut out one tag and hang it on an actual bag: check that the name faces out and the ribbon doesn't cover the message.
Punching, tying and folding
Each hang tag carries a small punch-hole mark, placed away from the name and message. Punch it with a standard hole punch, then thread ribbon, twine or a thin elastic.
Sending tags to a print shop
For a large shop run, a print shop can cut tags on a guillotine and drill punch holes faster than doing it by hand. Ask whether it wants the cut lines left on or removed before you send the file.
